Bluetooth COM Port Setup
< Previous | Start | Next >
The Bluetooth remote client on your mobile phone, communicates with the PC Bluetooth server over a virtual COM (serial) port. You will need to use your Bluetooth software to create a virtual COM port for Vectir to use.
The instructions for viewing or setting up virtual COM ports will vary between different Bluetooth stacks and setup software. The following list of Bluetooth software stacks states if they have been tested or are known to be compatible with Vectir:
- Broadcomm/Widcomm - Tested and compatible
- Toshiba - Tested and compatible
- Microsoft - Tested and compatible (15-Feb-2008)
- BlueSoleil - Untested
Example instructions are provided for the Toshiba, Broadcomm (Widcomm) and Microsoft Bluetooth stacks.
Microsoft Bluetooth COM port setup
1. Ensure correct Bluetooth Device Options are set
Load the Microsoft "Bluetooth Devices" dialog by right clicking on the Bluetooth icon in the system tray and selecting the "Open Bluetooth Settings" option. Select the "Options" tab once the dialog has loaded.
Make sure that the "Turn discovery on" and "Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer" options are enabled.
2. Create a Bluetooth COM Port
Select the "COM Ports" tab of the Bluetooth Devices dialog.
The "COM Ports" tab should now show any existing COM ports that exist.
To create a new COM port for Vectir to use, click the Add button. The "Add COM Port" dialog should load.
Select the "Incoming (device initiates the connection)" option and click OK to create the COM port.
The new COM port that you created should now be visible in the "COM Ports" tab. You may need to refresh the Bluetooth Devices dialog before the COM port number becomes visible. In this example, COM8 was created but the actual COM port number will probably vary depending on how many COM ports were already installed.
Take note of the COM port that you created and continue with the setup.
