Adding Bluetooth support to your computer
If your computer doesn't have any Bluetooth hardware built in, the easiest way to add Bluetooth support is with a USB Bluetooth dongle. These devices are inexpensive and provide a simple method of adding Bluetooth support.
One of the main considerations when purchasing a Bluetooth dongle should be selecting the correct device class. Class 1 devices work up to a range of 100m and class 2 devices work up to a range of 10m. If you are purchasing a Bluetooth dongle for communicating only with your mobile phone, you should choose the device class that matches your phone.
If your phone supports Bluetooth class 1, you should purchase a class 1 Bluetooth dongle if you wish to communicate with your PC from up to 100m away. A class 2 bluetooth dongle will work with a class 1 mobile phone, but only with a range of 10m.
If your phone supports Bluetooth class 2, you should purchase a class 2 Bluetooth dongle. There would be no point in purchasing a class 1 Bluetooth dongle as your phone will only be able to send signals over a range of 10m.
