Why doesn't the BTRemote midlet install on my phone?
In most cases, this is because the phone doesn't support the Java MIDP-2.0 or JSR-82 profiles. Check the documentation for your phone to see if these profiles are supported. This may also be because there is not enough memory left on your phone. -
How do I find out if my phone is supported by the Bluetooth remote software?
For a start, have a look on the supported devices page. This page lists devices that have been tested with the Bluetooth remote software and are known to work. If your device isn't listed, there is still a chance that it may work, as long as it supports the MIDP-2.0 and JSR-82 profiles. The only way to know for sure is to try installing the BTRemote midlet. -
Why can't my phone find my computer when searching for devices?
Make sure that your Bluetooth hardware is turned on. Some laptops have a wireless device switch that needs to be turned on to power up the Bluetooth hardware. Make sure that your computer is set to discoverable by your Bluetooth software. For example, the "Accessibility" tab of the Widcomm/Broadcom Bluetooth Configuration dialog has an option called "Let other Bluetooth devices discover the computer" that needs to be enabled. -
My phone doesn't show the server COM port in the port list.
It may be because the COM port is named as a serial port service. If the port list shows one or more items called "Serial Port Service", view the COM port setup page for instructions on how the rename the serial port service to the actual COM port name.
If the COM port doesn't show up at all, make sure that it has been opened from the Bluetooth Server dialog. You should also make sure that your PC Bluetooth software is set to discoverable. -
My phone shows an error message that says "Unable to connect on COM(x)".
This may be because another device has connected on that COM port. Make sure no other devices have Bluetooth connections with your computer.
If you are using the Widcomm/Broadcomm Bluetooth stack, open the COM port service properties dialog from the 'Local Services' tab of the 'Bluetooth Configuration' dialog, try un-checking the 'Startup Automatically' option for the COM port service you are trying to connect to, click 'Apply', re-check the 'Startup Automatically' option then click 'Apply' again. Now try to connect on the COM port service again.
Another possibility is that the serial port service for that COM port has been deleted. View the COM port setup topic for instructions how to view and setup Bluetooth COM ports.
If the serial port service for the COM port still exists, try turning Bluetooth off and on again on your phone and computer. There may have been a connection left open by another device. -
The bluetooth connection between my phone and my computer seems to be running slow.
This is usually caused by one or more other Bluetooth connections that are active on your computers Bluetooth hardware. Make sure all unnecessary connections are closed. Certain software applications running on your computer such as the Nokia PC suite may automatically attempt to connect to devices in range. -
I have another problem that is not listed above.
If you have previously, successfully installed and used the Bluetooth remote software, try the following options:
a. Check for updated Bluetooth remote software (client midlet and server plugin)
b. Reboot your computer, turn your phone off and on then try again.
c. Try re-installing the Bluetooth remote midlet on your phone.
d. Make sure that no other Bluetooth devices have connections that may be interfering with the Bluetooth remote connection. If you are having problems connecting for the first time, make sure that you have followed the step by step instructions for setting up the Bluetooth remote software.
